My first training in the healing arts was a level one certification in Reiki August of 1989, three weeks before I turned twelve. Inspired by receiving a brief treatment at a dinner party and feeling the relief from my sore throat I asked to attend a class. Several months later my mother drove my brother and I six hours to Denver. The three of us attended the training as a gift for my twelfth birthday.
I began massage school just a few months after graduating high school. The 500 hour program focused on Swedish Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy. I received my certification in 1996. Unsure if I knew enough to enter the work force, I stayed at school to complete over 1,000 hours of training. My first official massage job was in a humble, yet, busy day spa in Glenwood Springs, CO where I gained many hours of hands on experience. Since then, I have had the pleasure of working and gaining even more training throughout the western US while working at some world class spas. I worked several winters at Canyon Ranch and Miraval near Tucson, AZ. The summers took me to Alaska where I met the mother of my child. In summer of 2002 we moved to Santa Fe. In Santa Fe I have worked full time at both Ten Thousand Waves and La Posada de Santa Fe. In June 2019 I worked my last spa shift as I focused entirely on my private practice.
In my sessions I blend energy work and other modalities to balance my client's bodies and help maintain health. I try to follow my intuition where and how I am guided to work. I enjoy giving a deeply relaxing and broad pressure massage with some joint mobilization in the hips and shoulders while adding in a few mild stretches. Though it is a completely different way to approach the body, I enjoy giving Thai massage as well. It is another effective way to work the whole body that can be gentle or deep depending on what the client prefers. Thai massage includes compression, stretches, and working on energy lines with my hands, palms, feet, knees and elbows.
I believe that all massage is energy work!
Besides massage I love being outdoors and exploring off the beaten path areas of New Mexico. I have a budding interest in wildlife and landscape photography as well.
